To their indigenous Masai inhabitants, the golden grasslands that lie between Lake Victoria and the Great Rift Valley were simply the Serengeti, "the endless plains." Today, they are recognized as one of the world's most important ecosystems, holding an unsurpassed range and concentration of grassland animals.
Our safari has been carefully timed to coincide with the mass migration of wildebeest onto the short grass plains of the southeastern Serengeti. It is here, on these rich but short-lived feeding grounds, that the females of the 1.5 million-strong wildebeest herd will drop their calves. Lion, hyena, jackal, cheetah and leopard haunt the grasslands to prey on the newborn, weak or unwary. A guaranteed window seat in our four-wheel drive vehicles ensures close-up views of zebra, Thompson's and Grant's gazelle, topi, hartebeest and over 350 recorded bird species which contribute to what has been described as "one of the world's greatest wildlife spectacles."
We'll also visit Tarangire National Park, where we'll enjoy watching the behaviour of large herds of elephant feeding among the baobab trees. We will spend time in the natural amphitheatre of the Ngorongoro Crater, in which the "big five" African animals can be found. Lake Manyara National Park, which lies below the Rift Valley wall, supports a rich variety of water and land animals. A stop at Olduvai Gorge, where we will learn about early hominids, rounds out this quintessential African safari. |

| ACTIVITY LEVEL: |
| • | Easy. We will be doing most of our game viewing from the comfort of our pop-top safari vehicles, as it is illegal to get out and walk in the parks. The elevations do change as we travel around Tanzania with the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater at approximately 3400 metres and the Serengeti National Park at an elevation of slightly less than 2000 metres. This has not created any hardships for participants, of all ages, on our many previous tours. Note that roads are frequently bumpy and dusty, and you should be prepared for this. Our participants say...
I thoroughly enjoyed my tour to Tanzania. Chris was an excellent leader. All of the tour arrangements were first class, and I especially enjoyed our drivers Bernard, Jimmy, and Roger.
It is difficult to pick out one thing [highlight] as the entire tour was fantastic. If I had to pick one it would be seeing a Cheetah take down a young Wildebeest.
Thanks for your efforts in arranging such a wonderful tour.
Allan B.
